Against a 1960s vintage aerial photograph of a coastal city harbour, the waterfront, the buildings, the green hills beyond, the bay curving in the warm afternoon light, a giant hand enters from the upper right, holding a silver dessert spoon and scoops out a large, wobbling, perfectly translucent chunk of vivid turquoise jelly from the harbour. Where the jelly has been removed, a dark void remains in the water, the negative space of the missing scoop, the bay now partially eaten, the harbour a dessert in progress.

In the foreground left, on the rocky hilltop overlooking the city, a man in a mustard yellow shirt and wife sit together, their backs to us, looking out over the bay, the classic 1960s family holiday viewpoint pose, the kind of image from a vintage tourism brochure or a retro holiday photograph, intimate, nostalgic, completely human. They are watching. They have noticed. They appear entirely unbothered.

The conceptual genius is the colour. The vivid turquoise of the jelly and the turquoise blue of the harbour water are exactly the same, the colour match is perfect and completely deliberate, which means the jelly IS the water, the water IS the jelly, and the bay has always been a giant wobbly dessert waiting for someone with sufficient ambition and the right cutlery to help themselves. The silver spoon, the vintage cityscape, the warm mustard and green tones of the 1960s palette, the summer coastal light, everything in this image radiates the warmth, the joy and the slightly absurd optimism of a perfect summer holiday from an era when everything was slightly more colourful than it needed to be.

Jello Bay is the perfect piece for kitchen art enthusiasts, dining room decorators, coastal home lovers, retro kitsch collectors, vintage aesthetic devotees, summer holiday nostalgics, New Zealand art admirers, pop surrealism fans, quirky home decor seekers and anyone searching for jelly art prints, retro food art, coastal surreal art, vintage kitchen art, quirky dining room art, funny food art or a unique gift for someone who has everything, warm, funny, completely original and permanently conversation starting.

For kitchens, dining rooms, coastal homes, beach houses, holiday lets, Airbnb spaces, quirky cafes, retro diners, creative studios, gallery walls and any wall that understands that the best art makes you look twice, laugh once and immediately want a bowl of jelly.

Specifications

• All art prints are gallery quality Giclée printed.
• Printed on 200gsm archival matt paper using the finest archival inks.
• Print has a white border around the image.
• Print is titled at the base of the image with signature.
• Sizes specified are inclusive of the overall paper dimensions, including the white border.
• Art print does not include frame.
• Due to different screen configurations, the colour of the purchased print may slightly vary to what you see on your computer.

Packaging
When you purchase any of our original artworks you can be assured that all packaging is either recyclable or biodegradable using the most ethical means in line with our commitment to 100% carbon neutral sustainability.

All A3 (equivalent variants) art prints are shipped in a firm recyclable cardboard mailing envelope or tube and marked - DO NOT BEND.
All A2/A1/A0 (equivalent variants) art prints are shipped in a firm recyclable cardboard mailing tube and marked - DO NOT BEND.

Shipping Delivery Timeframes
Below are guidelines for receipt of delivery of your purchase from the time your order is dispatched.

UK 2-3 Business Days
Europe 1-5 Business Days
USA / CANADA 8-12 Business Days
REST OF WORLD 10-15 Business Days

For seasonal occasions the above timeframes may differ and we ask that you order in advance so as to avoid delay and disappointment.
Please note that your order may be subject to customs delays and import fees for which you are responsible for paying depending on your country.

Tracked Shipping
We aim to dispatch your order within 2-5 business days upon receipt of your order.
All orders are tracked, you will receive a tracking number and notification via Shopify once your order has been dispatched.
If there are any foreseeable delays we will contact you immediately.

It would be great to hear from you on your shopping experience with us.
Feel free to drop us a review.

Copyright © Vertigo Artography 2026

All Rights Reserved

// INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY NOTICE //
This original design / artwork is my intellectual property.
